Summary: The paper presents the course and results of research the primary objective of which was to learn more about natural and social science lesson planning. We found that teachers in the first educational cycle assess that they are well acquainted with the natural and social science curriculum and that it is of great help to them when preparing their annual lesson plan for the subject. Furthermore, we found that when preparing daily natural and social science lesson plans, teachers rely most on preprepared lesson plans and teaching materials, and that they would cope well without the curriculum. With regards to individual thematic clusters and cognitive processes in the curriculum, we found that different teachers evaluate them very differently. The most demanding content clusters were physical and technical content clusters, while the most demanding cognitive processes were argumentation, reasoning, and interpretation.
