(Self-)revelation in casting shows – what does the audience do?

Summary:  This article is based on an empirical study of the casting show Starmania, which continues to be a topical issue. As the male and female protagonists of this programme format, the candidates and their presentation by the media are the main subject under discussion. However, the audience is also a significant element in the staging of the production, since its opportunity for interaction – within the limits afforded it – has an effect on the show. This article sheds light on appropriation motives and patterns.
