The significance of education for human rights protection

Summary:  Various violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms appear in the school process and accompanying activities. With amendments to the school legislation, human rights protection is improving, however, problems still turn up. Deviations appear in the fi eld of the protection of the rights of primary and secondary school pupils, depending on the (non-)clarity of individual laws and regulations. The understanding of education processes is also crucial for the evaluation of human rights, especially when pondering individual rights in collision. The inclusion of human rights protection at the formal level (in school legislation), specifi ed by curriculum, contributes to the achievement of the democratic goals set and to the related issues concerning any illegal intervention of the state or individuals in the assertion of rights. The systemic understanding of human rights protections depends on the political culture, institutionalised bodies and the organisational culture of individual schools.
