Examples of good practice of outdoor education in Slovenia and abroad

Summary:  It is imperative that we systematically plan and organize outdoor education so students get ample amounts of valuable and concrete life experience. The article first states how some countries have implemented outdoor education and have developed rich traditions of it. Afterwards some stories of good practice of outdoor education from experienced Slovenian preschool and primary school teachers who often and effectively practice it are presented. Stories were acquired using narrative interviews. The survey includes data on what motivates teachers to practice outdoor education, interesting and innovative ideas for outdoor activities and what is crucial in planning and carrying out this kind of education. Outdoor education is at its best when creativity and cooperation are integrated into it. Cross-curricular integration is extremely important as well as nurturing curiosity, feelings and experiences in students.
