The Role of Technology in Education and Equal Opportunities for Students in the Covid-19 Crisis

Summary:  The closure of schools due to the pandemic has triggered a number of processes in education, one the most obvious being the importance that digital technology has acquired during the period of distance learning. Since the transition to distance learning was sudden, subsequent reflection is all the more important. The article tries to contribute to the reflection on the role of digital technologies in education and the consequences of their sudden introduction. It links the issue of equal opportunities with different conceptualizations of the digital divide and the concept of digital inequality. The use of technology in education is placed in the context of reflection on the process of introducing technology in education, technological pedagogical knowledge, discussions on values embedded in technology and reflection on the relationship between technology and the reduction of educational goals.
