Teachers‘ Attitudes Towards the Use Modern Technology in Mathematics Education
Sanela Hudovernik

Summary:  Using technology in maths lessons has many benefits for both teachers and students. Teachers need to recognise and acknowledge these, as the successful use of technology in the classroom depends primarily on them. In the context of the reform of the education system and the curriculum reform, it is necessary to take into account new developments and international trends in the field of education, including the digitalisation of society. Teachers will therefore need to keep pace with changes in the education process and integrate modern technology into teaching in such a way that its use is meaningful and effective. Therefore, professional training should be provided so that teachers are more competent and confident in integrating modern technology into the classroom. But are teachers ready for such changes? The research presented in this paper sought to identify teachers‘ views on the use of dynamic geometry in mathematics teaching and to explore the factors that contribute to shaping their views. We surveyed 117 primary school teachers who were teaching mathematics in either Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3 in the school year 2022/2023. We found that the willingness to integrate technology in the classroom is lower among more experienced teachers compared to less experienced teachers, and that teachers are aware that the Slovenian mathematics curriculum needs to be changed to support the use of technology in the classroom.
