Language and cultural barriers which have influence on literacy of immigrant students Barbara Hanuš
Summary: In the article the school in which most of the pupils do not speak Slovenian as their mother tongue is described. This has a big influence on the literacy process, because Slovene is the language of curriculum. When dealing with literacy we have to know the social status of students, behavioral styles of pupils and also the features of immigrant socialization process. Therefore, we ought to prepare programs for first-generation and second-generation immigrants. However it is crucial for pupils to learn Slovene as the second language as well as their mother tongue and culture.
